LA CHAMBRE DE SCHROEDER, 2009
La Chambre de Schroeder is an installation inspired by acoustic diffusers whose operating principle is based on a mathematical formula of the German physicist Manfred Schroeder. These panels, if placed to the wall or ceiling, allow to suppress the echo without any loss of clarity of sound. They are generally suitable for medium sized rooms such as auditoriums, home-cinemas, recording studios, ...
The artist deprives the objects of their purely acoustic functions to reveal their plastic qualities – somewhere between painting and sculpture - by changing certain characteristics and introducing a binary sequence (with the use of a color) in the cavities of these acoustic diffusers. The idea of furniture is an important aspect of the piece : it can be modulated and manipulated and thus allow to play with the scenography of the exhibition space.
