MÉCANIQUE DU TEMPS PRÉSENT, 2010

This video, filmed as a static shot, presents a set of constantly moving wheels of different size. Each gear rotates at its proper speed, some are moving more or less slow, while another do not move at all.

It is difficult to perceive the original scale of the mechanism : it might as well be a part of an industrial landscape like the settings of "Modern Times" or something of a macroscopic level.

However, the photographic quality of the image, with a first plan being fuzzy, gives an indication of the elements’ scale. Framed on a diagonal axis, propitious for causing a distortion of circular gears as well as for letting the reflections emerge on metal surfaces, the video operates a mechanism in order to create a particular perception of time : time ceises to be determined, or, sometimes, it stoppes and just freezes.
